Edge Hill University has earned their enviable reputation over 135 years, training teachers and working with the country’s children, young people and adult learners in schools, colleges and other settings.

The Faculty of Education has a national reputation for the delivery of high quality Initial Teacher Training across the full range of age phases. Edge Hill began life in Liverpool in 1885 as the first non-denominational teacher training college for women. From its origins as specialist institution with 41 female trainee teachers we are now one of the largest providers of Teacher Training in the United Kingdom.

Our teaching team are highly experienced tutors and researchers, sharing their knowledge, and supporting you to become an excellent practitioner in your own right. Staff are focused on your learning being up-to- date and relevant and many are active in research, publishing academic papers and texts or holding high profile roles within Examining Boards and subject networks and associations.

The purpose-built, £9million Faculty of Education building is part of a stimulating learning environment. It has a lakeside position on our award- winning campus and features a 300-seat lecture theatre, ICT suites and teaching rooms and a caféteria.

Support for you as an early career teacher

You will be supported through your transition to working life as an early career teacher through access to dedicated conferences and workshops. Bulletins and newsletters will be available to you in your new role as well as Masters level study opportunities. These initiatives enhance the careers advice and teaching vacancy service you receive during your training.

  • Edge Hill has been crowned University of the Year in the Educate North Awards 2020/21 in recognition of our continued commitment to delivering an exceptional student experience. We were awarded the coveted top prize for the exceptional progress we have made to deliver investment and innovation over the past 12 months. In addition to this, Edge Hill is one of a select few universities to have held the prestigious UK University of the Year title, awarded by Times Higher Education (2014/15).
